Workplace Ergonomic Desk Assessments

Musculoskeletal pain in desk-based workers is overwhelmingly a product of sustained, repetitive loading in suboptimal positions. A screen that is too low creates chronic forward head posture and cervical compression. A chair that is too high creates sustained shoulder elevation and upper trapezius overload. A keyboard position that requires wrist extension loads the carpal tunnel and forearm flexor tendons under sustained tension. Mouse use that requires sustained shoulder internal rotation and elbow extension creates the rotator cuff fatigue that eventually presents as impingement. These are not unavoidable consequences of office work, they are mechanical problems with mechanical solutions.

Workplace ergonomic desk assessments at this practice are conducted on-site at the patient's or employer's premises, or remotely via video consultation. They cover workstation layout, monitor height and distance, chair setup including lumbar support and seat height, keyboard and mouse placement, lighting, and movement habits. The assessment identifies the specific loading patterns driving the patient's complaint and provides actionable modifications (implemented immediately where possible) with a follow-up review to confirm that the changes have been effective.

For employers, workplace ergonomic assessments represent one of the highest-return investments in workforce health available. The cost of an ergonomic assessment is typically recovered in reduced sick leave and medical costs within the first quarter following implementation.
