Muscular Imbalance Correction

Muscular imbalances, the patterns of relative weakness, overactivity, and inhibition that develop through a combination of posture, sport, previous injury, and movement habits, are among the most consistent underlying contributors to both acute injury and chronic pain. The weak hip abductor that allows pelvic drop in a runner's gait, generating ITB syndrome. The inhibited lower trapezius that allows the shoulder to impinge in a swimmer's stroke. The shortened hip flexor that drives lumbar extension in a footballer's kicking action, generating lower back pain. These patterns do not resolve spontaneously. They require systematic identification and targeted correction.

Muscular imbalance assessment at this practice combines manual muscle testing, movement observation, and movement screening to identify the specific patterns driving the presenting complaint. The corrective programme that follows is integrated into the patient's overall rehabilitation and, where appropriate, into their sport-specific conditioning, because the goal is not just to correct the imbalance in the clinic, but to ingrain the corrected pattern under the loading conditions of the sport.
