Recovery Sessions for Endurance Athletes
Recovery is where athletic adaptation happens. The training stimulus damages tissue; the recovery period is when the body repairs and rebuilds that tissue stronger than before. Inadequate recovery (whether from insufficient sleep, poor nutrition, excessive training load, or the absence of active recovery modalities) prevents this adaptation, blunts performance, and accelerates injury accumulation. For marathon runners, triathletes, and cyclists managing high weekly training volumes, structured recovery sessions are not optional extras. They are a training component.
Recovery sessions at this practice combine soft tissue work (including deep tissue sports massage, dry needling for acute muscle tension, and myofascial release) with targeted mobility work for the structures most loaded by the athlete's specific training modalities, and assessment of the current state of the musculoskeletal system to identify emerging issues before they become injuries. For athletes in heavy training blocks or approaching key competitions, monthly recovery sessions are a highly effective injury prevention strategy.
